great electrical standard

I could not afford the latest copy but this one will do. It has a lot of information on circuit breaker and relay coordination. It is kind of hard to find this information in electrical text books. This edition as good examples and good recommendations of standard practices.

I borrowed a copy of the latest issue from the local engineering college library to compare them.The latest edition is completely revised(2001). They also added another chapter. The latest edition has the same basic information written different. It omitted the recommended standard practices and leaves it to the reader to decide what is the best way of interpreting the material.

I was interested in chapters concerning breaker (protective) coordination since the National Electrical Code (NEC) has introduce Heath care facilities as buildings that need coordination. I followed the code for over thirty years and I know this is just the start. Eventually all buildings protective devices will need to be coordinated. The government has been requiring it for years on most of there government buildings already.

I now use software for coordination and use to use graph paper for coordination but going back to the IEEE standards helps me review the basics.

Tempting Treats

I'm not sure why the Tuna recipe was not successful for one reviewer, because it is one of my cats' favorites (I have 4 finicky felines). Of the 4 recipes they have tried, the Tuna treats are definitely at the top of their list. While tuna is not my favorite smell, I didn't find it too offensive once cooked and the cats went wild (they even sat up, which is usually reserved for cheese treats). I would recommend this cookbook for any cat owner who wants wholesome treats that are not crammed with fillers like the store-bought ones are. I agree that this is a nice gift idea for any cat lover and have an extra copy on-hand just for that occasion.

overpriced?

The bulk of the book consists of long quotes from various relevant federal statutes, like rulings from the 10th Circuit Court, which often deals with tax matters. Relatively little of the book consists of the authors' original writings. Indeed, much of the narrative is quite disjointed. Typically, there is reference to replacing a section in the base text with an updated or corrected section in this text.

Perhaps best to think of this book as akin to an appendix or index. Not something typically read in its entirety.

But given that there is little of the authors' addings, and the brevity of the book, it seems overpriced.

Very relevant combination in IT today..

I work with a lot of school leavers and people outside IT and often have to advise them on how to empower themselves in IT in the right way. Surely SQL and databases are one of the first topics people should understand. HTML was also high on the list. With this book, the author has combined all of them in one making it a very relevant combination for today's beginner. I will recommend this book to school leavers, financial people and people outside IT wanting to empower themselves quickly. Another great advantage of XML and databases is the platform independence. Very well done to the author for combining these topics at the entry level in such an easiliy understandable way!

Good SQL Server Examples

I bought this years back and never opened it until about 2 years ago when I had to do some MS SQL Server 2008 work. After fruitlessly searching for good XML SQL examples everywhere, i.e., on the net, MS, etc., I was really surprised to find a very nice chapter called "SQL Server and XML" in this book.

It really helped me to understand what the heck I needed to do to extract data out of XML columns... I haven't read much else in the book, but will keep as a reference for when needed.

If you are just getting started in XML, and you need to learn how database are setup
and used, this book is excellent.
This is a good starter book to get you started. It covers a great deal of the system.
It is a text book that you can get the understanding for Database technology.
It is outdated some now, but this was a great book at publishing. It is still good reading
to learn from the beginning. You have to start somewhere! ;)
