This book takes you through the whole process of building a router network. Each part is explained in detail there are plenty of good illustrations. The final chapter is a major case study.
Practical experience is evident throughout the text. I'd be comfortable using this book as a guide through any network related project.

However (and I LOVE this!), Dr. Pescatore makes it very clear up front what you won't see in his recipe book: "Sugar won't be used in any of these dessert recipes." EXCELLENT! That's just the way we like it when we are livin' la vida low-carb. A superb dissertation on what is acceptable as an alternative to sugar is included at the beginning of the dessert chapter to help you make the right choices about what you should use, including a list of the "healthy sweeteners" (Stevia, Xylitol), ones where the "jury is still out" (Splenda, maltitol), and finally the ones you really should "avoid" (hint: Nutrasweet didn't do so well).

At the back of the book, Dr. Pescatore includes in the appendix an amazing resource guide to help you find some of the ingredients that may be hard for you to find in your area. He earnestly wants to see you succeed at his plan and literally thought of everything for people who read The Hampton's Diet Cookbook.

Ok diet, wonderful cookbook

I don't follow the Hamptons Diet because, despite the very smart premise, I find it a bit complicated, what with the food lists and all.

The cookbook, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. Not only are the recipes delicious, you can actually use this book with a variety of plans! Because most of the recipes aren't too high in fat and can easily be modified to further decrease the fat, eliminate the dairy, etc, this book offers a wide variety of fantastic recipes that can be utilized no matter whih plan you are on (including Fat Flush and South Beach).

I'm Italian but I do best on a moderate-carb diet. However I also have a tendency to digestive trouble (ulcerative colitis and IBS run in the family) so I don't do well on the tipical high-fat, dairy-rich fare most low-carb books offer. This books is perfect for me: it offers lots of recipes with Mediterranean flavors, made with fresh ingredients, and it doesn't overdo the fat and dairy.

Great primer for high school geometry.

With a full-time, private math tutoring practice, I enjoy the opportunity to help geometry students year-round. In the Summer, I help students who will be entering geometry, to get a head start on this course. The only materials I require them to use is the Geometry Workbook For Dummies, pencil, and straight edge. I like the way the author, Mark Ryan, presents the subject. Reading material is kept to a concise minimum, without sacrificing important concepts or details that students must know. This workbook has over 200 problems, with space provided for the student to work them out.

Students begin learning how to do two-column proofs in the very first chapter. Each chapter provides a nice mix of both proofs and problems for the student to solve, preceded by examples. Each problem comes with a diagram, given information, and sometimes hints. Some problems have an asterisk, which means they are more challenging than normal.

Answers and detailed solutions are provided at the end of each chapter. This is valuable study material which should not be overlooked. Some students find the cheat sheet helpful also, while they are still learning the important symbols, terms, concepts, and formulas. Unfortunately, it looks like the publisher, Wiley, has begun to phase out the cheat sheet, which was always provided at the front of each Dummies book. Instead, newer printings give you a link where the cheat sheet can be downloaded and printed from their website.

As an educator, this book allows me to cover many of the finer details of geometry, which teachers don't necessarily have the time to cover in the classroom. Consequently, these students are much better prepared, and the methodology of geometry proofs will not be a mystery to them. If students want more in-depth coverage of the topics presented, the regular Geometry For Dummies book, written by the same author, is a user-friendly resource.

DANIEL MINOLI has worked and published extensively in the field of IT security, with more than thirty years of hands-on experience in IT, telecommunications, wireless, and networking. He has helped develop systems and solutions for such organizations as Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA), Bell Telephone Laboratories, ITT, Prudential Securities, Telcordia (Bell Communications Research), AT&T, Leading Edge Networks, Capital One Financial, New York University, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Société Générale de Financement du Québec. His columns have been published in Computerworld, Network World, and Network Computing.

JAMES CORDOVANA has a decade of experience as an information technology and security professional, deploying advanced information security architectures for numerous applications, systems, and networks. mostly introductory explanations

The authors attempt to include as many terms as possible, that you are likely to encounter in the field of computer and network security. These range from "HTML" and "markup language" to "ATM" or "asynchronous transfer mode". Unsurprisingly, the dominent network which is covered here is the Internet. So you can find out what "TCP/IP" really stands for.

In my field of attacking phishing and pharming, the book's description of these is accurate. So too is its general assessment of a lack of technical answers, based on publicly available knowledge at the time it was written.

The level of technical explanation is moderate. For mathematically related terms, there's not much maths given. For other terms, it's at a level probably suitable to a reader with some background in general computing. If you are already at the level of possessing a degree in engineering or computing, then you don't need this book.
