This book was used in my Merchandising Principles class. It provides great general retail accounting overview, and sufficient background knowledge on the retail industry.

I highly recommend this book to anything thinking about entering into retail industry or staring a retail business of your own.

Better than the competition

I'm using this book as reference material in a wireless LAN course I'm teaching at a local college. I started out using the official CWNA study guide but I like this one better and have switched to it for the following reasons:

1. It is more up to date.

2. It has lots fewer typo errors.

3. The CD adds value to the book.

4. I like the end of chapter multiple choice questions (and the answers are in the book).

5. The authors explain concepts in a clear and concise manner.

I wish the authors could have done more with Security. But security is such a complex topic, it really needs a book of its own and one or two chapters in any book is not enough to really cover this topic.

The students like this book and actually like it better than the books selected by the previous instructor. All in all I think it's a great value. If you want to learn the basics of wireless networking, get this book and a wireless access point and wireless adapter card for your computer and go for it.

Best Bang For The Buck*******Get Certified!

On 23 Sept. I ordered the CWNA Certified Wireless Network Administrator Study Guide (Sybex) by David Coleman and David Westcott. $[...] on Amazon.com. This has got to be it. This is the best bang for the buck. Dollar for dollar you get more from this book then any other CWNA study material I've looked at. The CD alone is worth much more then the price. It has three sets of practice tests with 160 questions total, 215 flashcard questions and the 20 Q&A from each of the 16 chapters are all on the CD along with the complete book in .pdf so you can print Tables and Diagrams. Being able to use the Adobe search function is extremely helpful when trying to track down all of the occurrences of WiFi terms and functionality like RSSI (42 times on 23 pages) or PCF (65 times on 28 pages). There are also Whitepapers on topics like 802.11i and WMM. This book will be beneficial for both the experienced certified professional as well as the novice at the entry level of WiFi. While not skimping on details it does not over power the novice with the higher level intricacies of the technology. This book was a major factor in my passing the exam and getting certified on Monday 27 Nov.2006. ******* CWNA *******

Exceeds my expectations

I had the pleasure of attending all three courses in the CWNP track with David Coleman as the instructor. I procrastinated for over two years before taking any of the exams. During that time, the CWNA topics had undergone two revisions.

For my CWNA review, I purchased the study guide written by David Coleman and David Westcott. I spent three days reviewing the "old" information and learning the new topics covered on the exam. On the fourth day, I took and passed the CWNA test.

The book is well written with examples that help clarify and reinforce the text. I used the flashcards and test questions to identify areas where I required better understanding (more review). I found the book and additional materials on the CD have exceeded the expectations I have for a "self-study" book.

I would highly recommend this book both for educational and reference purposes. I find myself using it on a weekly basis. Now I'm looking forward to the wireless security offering from David and David.

About the Author
ROBERT L. POPP, PhD, is currently an Executive Vice President of Aptima, Inc., and formerly a senior executive within the Defense Department, serving in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He is an expert in national security and counter-terrorism, authoring numerous scientific papers and providing many technical briefings and interviews on the subject. He is a member of the Defense Science Board (DSB), Senior Associate for the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Senior Member of the IEEE, member of ACM and AAAS, founding Fellow of the University of Connecticut Academy of Distinguished Engineers, and a lifetime member of HOG (the Harley Owners Group).

JOHN YEN, PhD, is currently University Professor of Information Sciences and Technology and Professor in Charge, College of Information Sciences and Technology at The Pennsylvania State University. He is the author of numerous papers, holds one patent, chairs IEEE FIPA standard working groups on human agent communications, and is a member and Fellow of IEEE.

DARPA CT Programs and a Little Law

Popp and Yen have presented a the final reviews from a series of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) programs with some additional emergent math models and three chapters on Law, Privacy and the need for legal standard in the application of the emergent technologies. A better approach may have been to put the chapters on Law, Privacy and so on first. Then, to allow or require the authors of the remaining chapters to consider and comment on the effect of law on technology, as well as technology on law.

This is a fine, if somewhat dated, review of emerging information technologies. The explanations vary from excellent to prolix. The book is as overpriced as most textbooks and may find use as an upper level survey course on the presented material.

An Excellent Text for EE Undergraduates

I am using this text (2007 edition) for my undergraduate class in Electrical Engineering. I have found this text an appropriate, to the point, with adequate mathematics. It is much better than the other book "Communication Systems" by the same author. However, for certain details one has to refer back to the other book(s) from Lathi, Couch, Proakis, Stern, Carlson, and Zeimer, etc. When following this book, the students also find this book useful. However, if it was supported with MATLAB codes from within the text, (or available on the web site)it would have been highly appreciable. Currently this book seems to be a very good choice for a first course in Communication Systems. I request the publisher to make available the solution manual on the web as free resource.

I would like to make an importnat suggestion to the authors for adding 12th chapter on Information Theory and Coding. That shall make this 100% complete text for the undergraduates.

EXCELLENT! Wish I would have had this author teaching me.

There is no such thing as a student who is "slow" in understanding. There is however a teacher who does not master the art of communicating. A good student memorizes in order to pass a grade. A slow student is normally bugged by the "why" of everything. However I have had the honor of solving engineering problems for students from MIT and other top Universities because my professors were able to explain the "why" to me.
Mr. Peter H. Selby is an excellent author. You flow through his pages without having to read over paragraphs several times in order to understand the sense of his explanations without stress and fatigue. There is no guessing nor ambiguous wording. It is difficult to put down his book for the day. I look forward to his future books.

Succinct overview and excellent refresher...

This book will serve you well as a refresher in geometry and trig. Major facets of both subjects are dealt with in a brief but highly effective manner. There are just the right number of examples and exercises. This book can also be used as a auxillary text for first year college students. What a pleasure to read and DO some of the problems. I wish I had this crutch when I was sweating bullets learning calculus back in 1961. The trig portion is somewhat shallow but all in all a excellent book.

Great book

I like the no non-sense presentation of the material. The book moves very quickly. It is dense in topics, but the presentation is very readable. You'll often wonder why you're not further into the book... yet you feel that you have really covered a lot of material.
The explanations are great. And I have found that by answering the questions, that I catch tiny little mistakes in my understanding.
I picked up this book after a debate with one of my friends over a trig question. I am very satisfied with my purchase and highly recommend this book.
