Fraud Auditing and Forensic Accounting is an easy and enjoyable read which provides a well-rounded introduction to the field. It describes in detail the various means by which financial frauds are often perpetrated, and the various means by which forensic accountants and other anti-fraud professionals may prevent and detect such manipulation.

In my opinion, this book describe in detail the types fraud that can be perpetrated and how it is perpetrated. It also shows us how to detect the red flags in different types of frauds. Overall, it does fulfill my needs in buying the book in terms of how to look for the red flags and how I should focus my risk areas in terms of frauds auditing.

Camera Raw with Photoshop for Dummies by Kevin L. Moss has proven to be a top book for learning about Camera Raw and Bridge from a photography prespective. I have used Camera Raw and Bridge, but was never 100% sure about what to do, workflow, etc. This book was great for walking me though the steps. Explainations weren't overly detailed and Kevin added humor throughout, making the book an easy read.

A Great way to get started.

The big attraction of this series of "Dummies" books is that we who buy these products are happy to accept the limitations of our own knowledge whilst placing great value on the works of those who understand the subject. If, therefore, your own expertise is well beyond beginner level, there is no point in your purchasing this product just to exercise your superiority by writing a less than praiseworthy review. It's called showing off!

I am currently in the process of converting from film to digital photography and there are certain aspects which I have found quite daunting. Altogether, I have purchased several books and tutorial DVDs on the subject as that process of conversion continues.

Having already worked my way through other titles in this series (with camera in hand) I find these books speak my language and continue to provide an excellent grounding.

This book starts at the beginning of the story. Raw is both explained and justified at the beginning of a section headed "Getting to know bridge, Camera Raw and Photoshop - exactly why I bought the book in the first place. Having established some of the more basic skills, Raw is then explained in much more detail just as building bricks are placed on top of building bricks to create a much greater structure.

As that process continues, so we learn more and more about the subject in hand until we have mastered (and there is no reason why these skills should not be mastered from following the guidelines, advice and instructions given; Colour management, workflow, Adobe bridge, image management and much more besides.

I have not previously encountered the work of author Kevin Moss, but he is clearly one who not only knows his subject but also has the ability to explain things in that easy-to-follow format in which this series of books excels.

It's the model, stupid (not the visualization)

While Xcelsius is a great tool, the model is the substance behind the image. This software makes presentation simple and powerful (and has a bit of the 'wow' factor, especially when sending interactive .pdfs) but the real issue is building the underlying model.

In chapter 15, the 'real world examples,' none of the Excel models are shown. A big omission. It would have been so easy to add the 15 excel files to the 'Bonus material.'

Making Fancier Presentations from Excel

The 'For Dummies' books have done it again. This is a complete and thourough introduction to using Xcelsius to give you an entirely new set of sophisticated ways to show Excel data in graphical form.

Xcelsius specializes in what they call dashboards. That is, the data is diaplayed in the form of gauges (speedometer, gas gauge, they even have what they call 'alerts' that are close to idiot lights). You can also design inputs in the form of sliders, buttons, again, not unlike an automobile dashboard.

In addition to dashboards there are other features such a maps, enhanced charts, pictures -- all kinds of things to ehnance the visual experience of a presentation.

Technically, Xcelsius compiles your visual model into a Flash (.swf) file and creates an HTML file that calls the .swf file. The HTML file is of course presented using a web browser, PowerPoint, Adobe PDF, Microsoft Outlook, or Plumtree.

As in most 'For Dummies' books, this one starts slow, builds on the base, and by the end of the book you have a pretty good idea about the whole thing.

After being assigned to produce Dashboards for our company, I tried to read and understand the manual. I saw the Crystal Xcelsius for Dummies and thought I would give it a try. This book had me up and running in 2 days and I actually understood "why" things were happening. This is a great book for beginners and has a hands on approach to the learning, which I find extremely helpful. This book is for anyone who wants to learn Crystal Xcelsius in a hurry.

wanna master Jackon?

If you wanna master Jackson's classic bible, this is absolutely a prerequisite!!.
Most people love Griffith, but this is more than it.
Some people complain about this book which is too mathematical, but math is the language of E&M. Without strict, precise math, you gonna get nothing from E&M.
This book, I bet, will solidify your all needed mathematical background to conquer Jackson's Classical Electrodynamics.
Specially, the concept on conductor is explained very well with very nice examples in Ch.6 and dielectrics in ch.10 is well treated.
Useful and powerful solved examples are available on the right place.
The only not well treated topic is a radiation part, but Griffith will compensate for this.
Again, I'll strongly recommend this book for anyone who will continue graduate study in physics, whatever he will major.

The all around best junior-senior level physics book, period

Wangsness can seem daunting at first glance, however after using this book as a text for my first formal E&M class, it is my opinion that the mathematical rigor presented was perfectely matched with the logical development of electromagnetism. So many physics/math books are either falling off a log easy or too ridiculously abstract as to be used for any practical learning. I found the text by Wangsness to be exceptionally well developed, offering just the right blend of rigor and application. Accordingly, the problems at the end of each chapter reflect this development. Most other books I have seen on the subject offer very few workable problems and even fewer answers. This book is loaded with exercises at the end of each chapter that range from simply tedious to very difficult, which again, exemplifies the author's ability to fully develop a real understanding of E&M.

Excellent practical and accessible reference.

This book is indeed very modular, if you have any previous EM training and the required mathematical skills you won't have any difficulty using this as a practical, working reference. As a consequence of the modularity, there is some repetition of the information but it's a small price to pay for the completeness of the individual modules.
One of my favorite features of the writing is the clear references to previous results making it easy to review the references (and completely eliminates any need to search the index). I far prefer this to the usual method to make only vague references to previously developed concepts and is one reason why I find this is a good reference work.
Overall, the level is more advanced than Cook though better written. Some of the development of the material is rather novel (e.g., Amperes Law) and considerably more approachable than corresponding works by Smythe (ugh), Peck, or Stratton. I recommend Feynmans lectures in addition to this book. I find the two complement each other quite nicely.

An excellent practitioners guidebook for Program Management

As president of the Program Management Forum and a practicing consultant for almost 20 years in business process development, I have seen and used a lot of material related to program and project management.

I believe that this book is the best collection of valid, practical, usable information on program management that I have seen. Finally, the book clearly outlines ways for a company to transition to a Program Management Way of doing business and how the newly introduced role of program management must fit and collaborate with the other functions of a company to operate well.

A Fresh Look at Program Management

The authors define program management as "the coordinated management of interdependent projects, over a finite period of time to achieve a set of business results." The last phrase captures the dimension this book stresses for managers concerned with alignment between business strategy and the day-to-day execution of project deliverables. While this book recognizes the importance of project management as a tactical tool, its key contribution is to distinguish between the disciplines of program management and project management. This distinction is provided and explained to provide a framework for managers. Using this framework, managers will be able to ensure that products and services, however skillfully delivered, meet the overarching interests of the entire business. The authors refer to the "breakthrough" nature of this distinction. My search results for "program management" resulted in few alternatives to books on project management, but included this book. So the "breakthrough" description of this book is a reasonable one.

Chapter 1 lays out the purpose and applicability of the book, and motivates the study of program management. Part II (Managing the Program) and Part IV (The Program Manager) should be required reading in complex and dynamic environments. These chapters will help anchor program management requirements for organizations when significant priorities change in order to address new competitive or political realities.

The busier reader may choose sections for less emphasis on the first reading. I would nominate Part III (Program Management Metrics and Tools) and the first chapter of Part V (Transitioning to Program Management) for a more cursory reading the first time through. The more motivational sections (Parts I, II, and IV) will convince many readers of the value of aligning authority and communication and will challenge them to assess this alignment in their organizations.

Basically the first book on Program Management published in America

This fine book is a bit controversial in its contents. One might not agree on the definition of «program» the authors are espousing and use this single reason to reject the book contents as a whole. And maybe this is why «Program Management for Improved Business Results» is, to my knowledge, the first extensive book published in North America on the «elusive, misunderstood» subject of program management. I believe it took some courage to go ahead and produce this very extensive content on a subject that is currently storming boardrooms and giving headaches to senior executives, in their search for better governance of «project-oriented» business activities. An important landmark in project and program management literature, full of valuable information and propositions to tame the beast that is managing multiple projects happening together to serve a same corporate purpose. Many kudos.

The book makes the point on how an "ancillary" function, as Personnel department is usually seen, can play a role to support corporate strategy. It is also a state of art collection and review of human resources processes and tools at beginning of XXI century. Some frameworks and tools may seem a little bit outdated, but I think that many organizations are still far away from implementing the basic principles described by the Auhtors.
The book is a serious effort to demonstrate that HR functions have methodologies, processes and tools - as scientific as other more considered functions - to concurr to strategy execution.

Way too general...

This is not really about commodities, it is a basic and general discussion about futures
and options markets. It looks like every other text that regurgitates basic concepts on futures
and options without any real in depth analysis of the individual commodities. They section on
physical markets is what I thought would differentiate this text from others..and it begins to...
but ends after 20+ pages...a bit of a rip off.

A fantastic book. I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to commodities. I was surprised how much detail it went through. It's probably perfect for someone who does not work specifically in commodities but would like to learn about what is available in the way of infrastructure, information, and data.
