We have been working on them as a team of authors for over two years. I am indebted to my coauthors who have deep expertise in the clinical field addressed in each Planner. This new edition of the Homework Planner includes new exercises to help the client work toward recovery between treatment sessions. Each chapter in the Homework Planner has homework tasks that are created specifically for a problem dealt with in the parallel Treatment Planner. Brief Child Therapy Homework Planner

If you work with underprivileged kids, as I do, you will find this book's exercises very difficult to use. The exercises require sustained attention for reading long passages, and the vocabulary level is extremely high, even for my 7th grade clients. Many exercises require critical thinking and creative writing skills, which my client's have great difficulty with as well. Most inner city kids I work with are performing 2-3 grade levels behind, and look at me like I am crazy when I try to do these exercises with them.
This book would work great with middle/upper-middle class kids who are taught verbal skills from the get go.

I feel this book is an excellent resource for students, teachers, family, and clinicians. I use this book on a regular basis, incorporating each homework assignment into each session and treatment plan. It is very helpful in defining the appropriate technique to a specific problem area. This book gives specific homework assignments for particular diagnoses. As clinicians, we can use this book to explore assignments other clinicians have found useful. We can also increase our knowledge of new homework assignments. This book is different to other books due to its specificity to various childhood disorders. I recommend counseling classes use this book as a guide to learn techniques. I also recommend families to read this book and try out the homework assignments. As a psychotherapist, I have found this book to be a highly effective tool in my everyday work with childhood disorders.

Relatively clear and easy to read

I bought this book because the assigned dynamics book (Hibbler) was so bad, and generally Mariam-Kraige gave explanations that made sense. I especially liked the fact that it was in SI, as this got rid of a lot of nonsense baggage with the units, so that I could better focus on the material.

About the Author
Marsha Collier spends most of her time on things related to eBay. She’s a charter member eBay PowerSeller, as well as one of the original instructors for eBay University. Patti “Louise” Ruby, an Indianapolis native, was born to work on a computer. In junior high, she took a class in the programming language Fortran. She excelled and enjoyed the class: The die was cast. Patti went through several jobs as a programmer and then became a consultant. In the late ’90s, Patti was part-owner of an antique mall, and coincidentally found a Web site called AuctionWeb (the original eBay). She was fascinated by the concept, and began selling on the site. She also became an integral part of the chat rooms, which initially served as loose customer support where users helped other users. Patti’s ease with computers helped many a new user feel comfortable on the boards — and with using the AuctionWeb system.
In February 1997, Patti was hired as AuctionWeb’s second Customer Support Representative. In this position, she became the main interface between the engineering staff and the user community, where she communicated members’ “bug” reports and suggestions for site enhancements. When AuctionWeb became the new eBay site in the fall of 1997, she headed up a “live” question-and-answer board that was set up to help members make the transition between platforms.

This was a very helpful book, and made me think about the details when creating my listing and taking my pictures. It explains how to take clearer pictures and the important information to put in your listing. Most importantly, it tells you what things you should not do.

Helpful Book, but Outdated.

The only reason I'm giving this book 3 stars out of five is because it's outdated...I bought a book, for doing business in 2015, not 2006. But this is My fault. Nowadays EBay has become so BIG, it does a lot for the Rookie. Nevertheless, the book gives you valuable advice on how to make your pictures more visible in the eyes of the buyer, among other great Tips on selling. I bought it "second hand" therefore, I had a huge discount, and that's my advice for future shoppers.

About the Author
Jerry Tortora is Professor of Biology Coordinator at Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey, where he teaches human anatomy and physiology as well as microbiology. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his master's degree in science education from Montclair State College. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the Hyman Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), the American Society of Microbiology (ASM), American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), National Education Association (NEA), and the Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists (MACUB).
Above all, Jerry is devoted to his students and their aspirations. In recognition of this commitment, Jerry was the recipient of MACUB's 1992 President's Memorial Award. In 1996, he received a National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) excellence award from the University of Texas and was selected to represent Bergen Community College in a campaign to increase awareness of the contributions of community colleges to higher education.
Jerry is the author of several best-selling science textbooks and laboratory manuals, a calling that often requires an additional 40 hours per week beyond his teaching responsibilities. Nevertheless, he still makes time for four or five weekly aerobic workouts that include biking and running. He also enjoys attending college basketball and professional hockey games and performances at the Metropolitan Opera House.

Mark Nielsen is a Professor in the Department of biology at the University of Utah and for the past twenty-one years has taught anatomy and its related subjects to over 16,000 students. In addition to teaching human anatomy in the Department of biology, he also teaches neuroantomy, embryology, a human dissection course, a teaching human anatomy course, and assist with the comparative vertebrate morphology course. he developed the anatomy course for the physician assistant program at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He developed and continues to help maintain the anatomy and physiology program for the Utah college of Massage Therapy (presently the largest massage school in the United States) and taught his program there for twelve years during its inception and development. His graduate training is in anatomy and his anatomy expertise has a strong basis in dissection. He has prepared and participated in hundreds of dissections of both humans and other vertebrate animals. All his courses incorporate a cadaver-based component in the training with an outstanding exposure to cadaver anatomy. He is a member of the American Association of Anatomists (AAA), the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS), and the Anatomical Society of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI).
Mark has a passion for teaching anatomy and sharing his knowledge with his students. In addition to the many students he has taught, he has trained and mentored 900 students who have worked in his anatomy laboratory as teaching assistants. His concern for students and his teaching excellence have been acknowledged through numerous awards. He received the prestigious Presidential Teaching Scholar Award at the University of Utah, is a five-time recipient of the University of Utah Student Choice Award for Outstanding Teacher and Mentor, a two time winner of the Outstanding Teacher n the Physician Assistant Program, recipient of the American Massage Therapy Association Jerome Perlinski Teacher of the Year Award, and a two time recipient of Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

This book saved my life in anatomy class. It's a keeper, which I can't say for most texts. It's organized by systems and not regions, which is really the best way to learn anatomy. It also includes Latin and Greek origin names, a glossary, great diagrams, and a basic biology refresher section. Purchase along with "Human Anatomy Lab Manual with Cat Dissections" and you'll be ready to tackle anatomy class.

The 11th edition is just fine thank you

I just had a chat with a senior Biology professor at my university; turns out that this 12th edition was merely an "obligatory" release. Meaning, the publishers put out the update merely to make more money. The content and layout is virtually identical to the older 11th edition with very few revisions. Frivolous updates to skirt the used-textbook market and push more profit to publishers is what has earned this book a low rating.

In short, waste you're money; go with the 11th edition.

From 1989 through 1991, he was the Director of Auditing Research for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and he previously was on the audit staff of KPMG. He was a member of the Auditing Standards Board of the AICPA and has previously served as a member of the Accounting and Review Services Committee and the Board of Regents of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Professor Whittington has published numerous textbooks, articles, monographs, and continuing education courses.

Patrick R. Delaney was the Arthur Andersen LLP Alumni Professor of Accountancy and Department Chair at Northern Illinois University. He received his PhD in Accountancy from the University of Illinois. He had public accounting experience with Arthur Andersen LLP and was coauthor of GAAP: Interpretation and Application, also published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. He served as Vice President and a member of the Illinois CPA Society's Board of Directors, and was Chairman of its Accounting Principles Committee; was a past president of the Rockford Chapter, Institute of Management Accountants; and had served on numerous other professional committees; and has made many presentations to professional groups. he was a member of the American Accounting Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Institute of Management Accountants. Professor Delaney was published in The Accounting Review and was a recipient of the Illinois CPA Society's Outstanding Educator Award, NIU's Excellence-in-Teaching Award, and Lewis University's Distinguished Alumnus Award. He was involved in NIU's CPA Review Course as director and instructor.

Great product

This really is a great product and I found both the volume and nature of the multiple choice questions to be outstanding. Before buying this book, I labored through the Becker course without good results. I take much of the blame for early failure, but this book cuts right to the chase. The Becker course has a lot of bells and whistles, but really, just get this book and work through the thousands of practice questions. It will never expire (unlike the Becker materials) and this book contains all of the same (exact same) questions as Becker's materials. Money well spent. Good luck to all, it is such a relief to be done!

Thousands of Practice Questions and Simulations

This book contains thousands of multiple choice questions and quite a few simulations. I am using it in addition to a Becker review course. It has some of the same questions as the Becker material (probably 30 percent), but there are many questions not included in Becker, and some of them have a very different focus and style. I think this makes the book worth the $60 price, just to fill in the gaps. If you are not using a review course, the Wiley reviews are also recommended, individually or in the four volume set.

The 2 Vol is the replicate of the 4 vol bundle!!!

I bought the 2 vol set with the 4 vol bundle with the thought that the 2 vol set is totally different. How wrong i am!!! It is exactly the duplicate of the 4 volume, the only difference is that the study outline and problems and solutions in the 4 vol set had been split into 2 volumes.

I have returned the 2 vol set to Amazon.Hopefully can get a refund.

Szasz is the well-known anti-psychiatric psychiatrist who first attacked the "myth of mental illness" 25 years ago. Several books since, including the present one, seem redundantly to echo his attack. Always a clear and accessible writer, the author has some trenchant criticisms of psychobiology, of a society perhaps too ready to excuse criminality as psychopathology, of a field filled with jargon (is "self-actualization" anything more than "living life to its fullest"?). Unfortunately, such refreshing insights are buried in the overall excess of a polemic dismissing virtually all inner mental life and conflict in favor of a vague, apparently concretistic viewpoint. Thomas Szasz's writing career has been founded on reaching for the truth by smashing the false linguistic and conceptual idols of psychiatry. His "Myth of Mental Illness," published in 1961, still stands as one of the most clear and devastating indictments of modern psychiatry: a system it describes as being rife with hypocrisy and mendacity. There is no such "disease" as mental illness, or schizophrenia, or insanity, he argues (brilliantly).
In this book Szasz brings together and summarizes the logical and conceptual underpinnings of his arguments. It is a tour de force. His language is simple, direct, unequivocal. The influence of Karl Kraus (about whom has written a book) on the purity of his language usage is patent in his prose and thus the reader is never left in doubt about what Szasz means.
Szasz recognizes the difficulty of abandoning any broad and pervasive set of concepts with which we have been raised, regardless of how wrong or absurd the concepts may be. Those who toil in the field of mental health may reject all (or most) of his arguments on the basis of their daily contact with the mentally ill: to be shown that there is no such thing as "mental illness" is bound to cause a jolt to their tranquility. Yet it should be the goal of society to seek a universe in which the behavior of people is not mislabeled and where truth in language reigns. Szasz points us in the right direction. An excellent bibliography, references, and name and subject indices are part of the book.

Psychiatric Enslavement: Madmen or Mad Doctors?

In _Ideology and Insanity_ Thomas Szasz, professor of psychiatry and libertarian activist, presents a view of the dark side of the psychiatric establishment. Szasz is known for being one of the originators of the anti-psychiatry point of view in the 1960s (along with such others as R. D. Laing) and is a noted libertarian in the school of such individuals as Karl Popper, Ludwig von Mises, and Friedrich Hayek. In this book, Szasz makes the rather odd, indeed astonishing claim, that mental illness is entirely a myth and rests on a misunderstanding of the nature of illness. Rather than viewing certain individuals as mentally ill and thus diagnosing them with particular mental disorders, Szasz argues that it is best instead to view these individuals as possessing problems in living. Szasz contends that the diagnostic labels used to categorize mental illness are in fact nothing more than stigmatizing slurs (despite the contention by psychiatrists to the contrary, or that "mental illness is an illness like any other"). Psychiatry has a long, bloody, and inglorious history, beginning perhaps with medieval manuals on witch-hunting (e.g. the notorious _Malleus Maleficarum_) often used to eliminate dissidents and heretics, and including Nazi experimentation, the authoritarian theories of Sigmund Freud, and communist totalitarian psychiatry. Indeed, Szasz tells the story of a certain poet who was found mentally imbalanced by a psychiatrist in the Soviet Union because "poetry did not constitute useful work" and thus held captive against his will in an asylum. Too often psychiatry has resorted to fascist brutality and cruelty, including coercion, outright fraud, lying, forced medication, forced incarceration in a mental hospital, forced electroshock and insulin treatments, forced confinement, and even dangerous psychosurgeries such as lobotomy. Szasz notes that much of the problem rests with the undefined role of the psychiatrist (or psychologist). Thus, the psychiatrist (or psychologist) is faced with a continual conflict of interests, is he primarily interested in the patient (as a doctor would be) or is he interested in protection of society from dissidence and persecution of deviancy. Too often the psychiatrist sees himself as an authoritarian figure, capable of bestowing a given label upon an individual for any reason at all (needing only to justify this with reference to the completely open ended categories of the _DSM_), and legally able to confine an individual against his will and recommend "treatments" which often amount to no more than tortures. Szasz examines the role of the psychiatrist in the government, in law, in the public schools, and at universities, and shows how each of these roles fundamentally rests on fraud and dishonesty. Psychiatrists (and psychologists) frequently violate so-called confidentiality in the best interests of an institution they serve (or an insurance company) for example so as to protect that institution from certain individuals declared insane. Szasz notes that much of what the psychiatrist does consists of an attempt to shift powers from the legal and judicial systems as well as societal and social responsiblities to a group of technocratic doctor/bureaucrats. It is this authoritarian/scientistic/collectivistic orientation of the psychiatrist that Szasz finds so alarming. While I believe Szasz would say that psychiatrists (and psychologists) can and do generally help people, he notes that their entire profession fundamentally rests upon an attribution error, fraud, and a conflict of interests. This is not to disparage the many good and caring individuals who enter these professions in an effort to help others. The arguments of Szasz are radical, in that even "illnesses" such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia which are now almost entirely believed to be biologically based, are argued by him to be based on mere convention. Frequently, by assigning these labels to individuals they are conveniently scapegoated, their rights denied them, and then they are thrown to the dogs of society and left to fend for themselves. This is a true travesty of justice and a great shame to our society. Szasz proposes an entirely individualist ethic which orients the psychiatrist towards the patient and which views man as autonomous and endowed with free will. I disagree with certain points of this ethic, in that I do not believe in a right to abortion or suicide etc., however I do note that psychiatry is frequently used merely to categorize those who are not like us. Szasz's orientation is secular and humanistic as well as atheist; however, he oddly mentions God quite a few times within his book. Also, I note that he makes little distinction between outright behaviors (which a psychiatrist may deem deviant) and reports of inner states (thoughts, moods, and feelings) which seem to play little role in his book. Indeed, most individuals who consult psychiatrists consult them voluntarily to help deal with thoughts or feelings which pose troublesome for them. Even individuals which are labelled schizophrenic by the psychiatric establishment (usually who are entirely harmless) may be able to identify their troubling thoughts and feelings. Perhaps schizophrenia merely consists in an alternative mode of perceiving the world. It is the authoritarian psychiatrist who declares the schizophrenic to be guilty of a "thought crime" and argues that his perception of reality has no validity. Szasz does not deny the existence of delusions, hallucinations, or illusions, but he merely questions their usefulness as determiners of "mental illness". Thus, all three occur commonly in life, even in the lives of so-called "normal" people. While there is much in this book that is controversial, it is sure to provide a great deal of concern for the individual living in the modern world as it increasingly comes to resemble that of 1984.

Szasz' best book

I strongly disagree with the Library Journal reviewer that this book is "not much of an addition to the author's previous work". Among his many works, this book is by far the clearest and best documented statement of his basic proposition that mental illness is a myth. Really, this is the book that his second and groundbreaking book "The Myth of Mental Illness" should have been.
I had the good fortune to meet Dr. Szasz in the mid-1990s, and I told him that I thought his best books were "The Manufacture of Madness" and "Insanity: The Idea and Its Consequences", in that order. He said that many people agree with me, but that he himself would reverse the order and put "Insanity" first. Who am I to argue?
For his brilliance, importance, and courage, Thomas Szasz is my greatest intellectual hero, followed by Karl Popper for similar reasons.
