Excellent reference

I run two websites and know Dreamweaver, but only enough to keep my sites running. I needed a reference for those occasions when I do something new, and this book filled the niche perfectly. The chatty, easy to follow descriptions of various functions in Dreamweaver make it easy for me to add functionality when I need them. Two thumbs up!

Excellent ALL-IN-ONE reference....

I work a lot with various businesses and part of my work includes web design. In the past, I was also a Director of Education for PeopleSoft and I have served in similar capacities for a variety of companies in Silicon Valley. As such, I am well-qualified to judge the merit of this materail and I must say it is a real bargain for the 800+ one stop shopping reference for DreamWeaver 8.

The book is well-organized and it could be used as either a text or an "as needed" reference manual. The descriptions are clear, to the point and easy to find. It also deals with topics such as inserting Flash video and has a lot of meaty content in addition to simple instructions.

This book is truly a "must have" reference for any web developer!

This is not a textbook!

I decided to write this review after reading the previous reviews to this book. Apparently, a couple of the reviewers think of this book as a text book, which it is not. Even though the first edition was published in 1968, and the second in 1981, this book is still a very useful reference to anyone who works in the field of semiconductor device physics. The author presupposes a good amount of knowledge, and does not try to lead the reader "by hand" through all the details in the derivation of the mathematical expressions. I recommend this book to all serious scholars at the senior level and beyond, -as a reference book-.

A classic textbbok for semiconductor physics

As well known, this book is one of the classic books for semicoductor physics. It provides a lot of information in various devices, although some probably is outdated. However, as I know, the author was trying to tell the readers why and how semiconductor devices become what we see today. Because only we know about what the pioneers thinked, we can further modify or invite new semiconductor devices. I must agree that this book is not so easy to follow and read, but, don't froget, this book is devoted for advanced semiconductor physics course. It assumes the reader is already familiar with some foundamental semiconductor knowledge!

More patchwork than book!

This is not a good book to study semiconductor devices.In the reality it is a patchwork of uncorrelated articles about various devices lacking unity of vision and clearness in the exposition.Very often it happened to me to use other 2 or 3 other books only to understand Sze .And the author is extremely fond of making reference to final formulas without explaining the logical developement used.And now the book is dated too:so do not buy this book,try instead "Device eletronics for integrated circuits" by Muller and Kamins which is advanced and well conceived too!

important but too often overlooked topic

Univariate probability distributions are often used in simulations and there are many books that cover ways to generate random values from specific distributions or families of distributions. This book is unique in that it does the same thing for multivariate distributions with various statistical properties.

I found it very useful to take the Pearson VII family of distributions and use Mark Johnson's techniques for generation of multivariate observations with elliptically shaped contours. Looking at a one parameter family of distributions where the tail behavior is controlled by the parameter was something that I found to be useful in comparing bootstrap estimates of classification error rates in simulation studies.

Alright book for college.

I used this book for Quality, Process, and Improvement class in college. It starts off with basic stat information like mean, standard deviation, but then jumps quickly into upper and lower limits. The learning curve on this book is high and I recommend you take a course with this book and not just read it your self, as it is an advanced book.

A profitable field guide

"Marine Fauna and Flora of Bermuda" by Wolfgang Sterrer is a macro-field guide covering 740 full-sized pages. Over 1500 species are described, most never before included in a general guide. Since many of the organisms in the waters of Bermuda can also be found in the West Indies or southeastern United States, the field guide can be used profitably in those areas, as well.

There are 228 black-and-white plates and 16 colour plates. The latter show invertebrates. Weirdly, each plate has a private corporate sponsor! Thus, the Bank of Bermuda sponsors the plate showing sea hares and other sea slugs. Thank you. By contrast, the Bank of Butterfield brings us sea squirts. It seems this work is "profitable" in more ways than one...

Organisms featured in this volume include cyanobacteria, fungi, lichens, amoebas, bristle worms, beard worms, spoon worms and (surprise) round worms. Biggest surprise: the Belted Kingfisher.

The Bermuda Triangle might indeed be dangerous, but perhaps not in the sense we expected!

Keeping it simple

I have spent hours pouring over business texts as part of my studies and it is only recently that it occured to me that a pre-condition for business writing is verbosity. Where one word will do it seems that the norm is to write 10! I wouldn't mind if they were wise, witty or otherwise held my interest but for the most part seem to fit the catageory of "padding".
Value Drivers suited me very well because it seeme to highlight the pertinent issues quickly and accurately without going into unnecessary detail. The models introduced have been relevant to a number of the modules on my course including marketing and finance as well as strategy. Since I am interested in marketing then the case study examples given have also been relevant.
In a nutshell a fine example of brevity, clarity and precision. One small niggle. More illustrations, please. Pictures paint etc. My course load would reduce if more books were written in this way!

As a university professor, I found "Value Drivers" by M.C.Scott to be an exceedingly insightful, no frills introduction, focused on how to make a business work better, something particularly relevant to someone like myself with little background in the field. This dramatically contrasts with typical management texts that are dense, difficult to read, and filled with arcane and obtuse information with no sight of the forest for the trees. The numerous figures are exceedingly helpful, summarizing what would otherwise call for many pages of text explanation. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence could make ample use of these cleverly presented, clear summaries of critical management concepts.
One walks away from this book with the key fundamentals rather than the typical, irrelevant mumbo jumbo found in other books on the subject. This is an informative, practical introduction, the only such example I have found among available books on the subject.
Further, the author's writing style is clear and to the point rather than going on and on and on filling up pages with irrelevance of typical management texts. This is a great relief, and a welcome, dearly needed addtion to the field.
I suggest "Value Drivers" as mandatory reading for anyone who desires to quickly understand how easily a business can be made to work better.

Excellent title for self-training into a new job position

As a computer systems administrator, I usually support several applications without getting too involved in their inner workings nor with the business that they run. This book, however, allowed me to understand the bond markets and to be able to interact with computer users with definite knowledge and sure understanding of the business. The book is a cross between a text book and a do-it-yourself with examples. I couldn't have done it with out it. Next I'm ordering An introduction to Derivatives.

Don't buy it!

You can't really use it. Huge amount of typos, omissions and errors. Just try to compute rate of return using formula from the book ROR = [(Selling price-1)/Buying price]*100. Buying for 90 and selling for 100 gives you a zero return rate, nice, isn't it. Worst book I've ever had.
